About

Our History

Founded in 1926, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors-Iowa (NAIFA-Iowa) is a state chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. We represent nearly 1,000 insurance and financial advisors and industry professionals in Iowa. Members are primarily engaged in the sale of life and health insurance and related financial services.

The primary purpose of NAIFA-Iowa is to facilitate the education of insurance and financial service professionals. Along this line is the active involvement to the state and national association in legislative activities. NAIFA-Iowa has a contract lobbying team (Scott Weiser, Capitol Strategies Group) and NAIFA maintains a team of lobbyists in Washington D.C. We also use individual members and a state Legislative Chairman to act as a liaison to legislators. NAIFA-Iowa holds a Day on the Hill in Des Moines each spring and an annual state convention in the fall.

Our Advocacy Efforts

When it comes to political advocacy and protecting the interests of its members, NAIFA-Iowa is one of the best in the business. Our talented and experienced staff and volunteers engage decision makers at every level of the legislative and regulatory system. NAIFA-Iowa's government affairs staff monitors federal legislation and mobilizes resources to achieve the most favorable outcome for members and their clients. The constituent and staff lobbying effort is strengthened by both our industry-leading political action committee, known as the Insurance and Financial Advisors Political Action Committee (IFAPAC), and the Advisors Political Involvement Committee (APIC), our grassroots network of members who have developed relationships with members of Congress.

NAIFA-Iowa works hand in hand with NAIFA's national government affairs department to positively impact state legislation and regulation. We develop lobbying strategies, comment on key issues, implement uniform policies and participate in litigation. Our many successes have hinged on NAIFA's favorable relationships with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL), the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), and the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL).
